Progesterone in Men

Progesterone is a gender-neutral gonadal steroid, produced in the ovaries, testes and adrenals. Sharing a similar chemical structure with estrogen, the hormone functions as a precursor for androgens and glucocorticoids. Progesterone delivers diverse benefits for men:

  • Helps counteract the effects of estrogen on the male body
  • Preserves masculinity, as a precursor to testosterone
  • Boosts immunity
  • Increases dopamine release
  • Improves penile sensitivity
  • Increases ejaculatory function

As men age and testosterone begins to diminish, the levels of estrogen in a man’s body substantially increase. As this occurs, progesterone levels decline. This in turn can cause these symptoms:

  • Low libido
  • Hair loss
  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Gynecomastia (male breast growth)
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Impotence
  • Bone loss
  • Muscle loss
